Hello! Thank you for visiting again today.

In the previous article, we learned that meditation significantly contributes to both mental and physical health.

So, what exactly happens inside our bodies when we meditate?

Why is meditation good for health? Why does meditation have a positive impact on life?

These aspects are not often explained.

I would like to try explaining this from the perspective of Qi in traditional master yoga and Qigong that I am studying.

We take in the essence, which is the natural energy, through our breath, diet, and the first chakra.

The energy of the natural world has a Yin nature.

This natural energy is Yin energy.

In yoga philosophy, this essence with Yin energy is called Prana, while in Hinduism and Esoteric Buddhism, it is referred to as Shakti.

We circulate this absorbed essence through our body's meridians, channels, and blood vessels.

As we grow from birth, our ego develops, and our meridians become more or less blocked.

Blocked meridians cannot circulate energy effectively, but as we practice meditation, our awareness gradually focuses inward, which helps to clear these blockages bit by bit. Consequently, the energy can circulate more efficiently within the body.

Moreover, as the energy circulates, it begins to gather in the chakras, which activates them. The activated energy, in turn, helps to clear further blockages in the meridians.

This activated energy is referred to as Qi(氣).

So, what exactly are these blockages in the meridians?

As mentioned earlier, they are related to the ego.

When we are born, we are in a state filled with pure, Yang energy.

As we grow, we shift from living intuitively and instinctively to learning societal expectations and norms, which causes the development of the ego and results in blockages in the meridians.

Additionally, incorporating the Yin energy from the natural world causes the originally positive energy to gradually lean towards Yin, leading to a predominance of Yin energy in most cases.

It is important to note that Yin energy is neither inherently good nor bad. Like a battery with positive and negative charges, both are necessary.

In my teachings of traditional Master Yoga and Wudang Taiji Naidan Method, we consciously accumulate energy in the chakras and use breath and awareness to harness this stored Qi.

I also transfer Yang Qi that I have cultivated to my students, which helps them clear blockages in their meridians, improve Qi circulation, and experience physical and mental changes within a short period.

I may have inserted some self-promotion, but similar processes occur in meditation.

However, since it does not actively stimulate the flowing Yin energy, it takes a bit more time. Nevertheless, meditation will eventually show effects on both mental and physical health.

There are reasons why babies are born with positive energy, and I plan to discuss this in the future.

This explanation is quite general, but it outlines why meditation is said to be beneficial for health and how energy actually works. There are more details, which I hope to discuss further at another time.

In my previous blog, I mentioned that there is a deep connection between a relaxed state and the immune system, which is said to enhance the body's natural healing ability.

It is understood that the functioning of the brainstem is crucial for the body's natural healing ability.

This is because the body's natural healing ability is greatly influenced by the brainstem's role in homeostasis.

Homeostasis refers to the regulatory function that maintains a stable internal environment, ensuring that body temperature, blood volume, blood components, and other factors remain constant.

It is said that this ability is maximally activated when we are asleep, and it is important to rest the brain in order to allow it to function at its best. It may seem like a contradiction, but it is actually essential.

In a deep meditative state, brain waves shift to just before sleep, so this might be related to how homeostasis operates!
